2021 year in review

APPLE PODCAST | SPOTIFY | STITCHER

I like to think of the New Year as a clean slate. It’s kinda like staring off a mountain into a sea of trees. You aren’t exactly sure what lies ahead. But that feeling of possibility is the perfect combination of scary and exciting and ignites a fire within me. Do you feel the same way? With the new year also brings the perfect time to reflect and look back on all that has happened over the last 12 months. We can get so caught up in the day to day of things that it can be hard to see growth and change in the moment. But looking back gives us perspective. On today’s episode, I share a recap of 2021, plus my vision for 2022.

2021 Year in Review

Business Review in 2021

Before we dive into what my goals are for the new year, or rather what I’m hoping to manifest as goals, I want to reflect on the past year. In just one short year, The Virtual Assistant Studio has doubled its client roster and hired three amazing team members. We got super clear on who our ideal client is and made the very tough decision to not take on any new clients in the last quarter of the year, to ensure we can serve our existing clients well.

The team was put to the test in my first trimester of pregnancy because I was so sick that I was forced to delegate and let go of things I had been holding onto. And boy am I glad I did, because they did amazing! Sure there are were a few hiccups, but nothing that wasn’t an easy fix or a lesson learned around communication and direction on my part. Getting pregnant over the summer could not have come at a better time. And when I made it out of the fog of those first fifteen weeks, it was like someone had unlocked all the creative juices that I had been storing for the last few months.

Other business goals checked off the list in 2021:

  • Launched the Bold Business Podcast
  • Invited as a guest on the Jenna Kutcher podcast (air date TBD 🙂 )
  • Streamlined our onboarding process for our clients
  • Created a clear content strategy to help serve our students and our aspiring students

Personal Review in 2021

On a more personal note, you guys know that we will be welcoming a baby boy at the beginning of March 2022. I’m having my husband on the next episode where we dive into how we’re feeling about baby number two. Plus we touch on our fertility journey, our fears and our hopes for our family looking ahead. It will be a heartfelt listen, yet also includes some juicy details of what’s truly on our hearts. So be sure to tune into that episode!

Other personal goals checked off the list in 2021:

  • Was more present as a mom and showing up well for my family
  • Lived a healthier lifestyle with my fitness routine, using the Obe fitness app
  • Incorporated more work boundaries to create a more balanced, well-rounded day

2022 Goals

2022 goals

When looking ahead at the New Year, I have a pretty open mind around what I’m hoping for and what I’m hoping to accomplish. I like to think of New Year’s resolutions not as resolutions at all, but rather goals. Personally I look at each of the categories of my life and I write down a few key things that I’m focusing on. I keep this piece of paper on my desk so that I can look at it daily. Having it as a visual reminder helps to inspire me to take small daily actions to accomplish them, without feeling overwhelmed.

The five main categories that I focus on are personal or self, finance, marriage, business and family. I thought it would be fun to share my goals for each of these categories and how I plan to make them a reality!

Personal Goals

I’m excited to continue my health journey after baby comes. I use the Obe fitness app and love the barre, yoga and sculpt classes. But I also love getting outside and going on a walk or hiking our local mountain that is nearby.

Finance Goals

As a family, we have some big financial goals. We are meeting with an investor in the new year and are excited to come up with some long-term plans. Since I run my own business, we need some guidance around how to maximize our options for retirement and investing long term. We follow the Dave Ramsey method. After reading total money makeover, we paid off over 25k in debt. We still have one student loan of mine that we are working on and a little bit of the SUV that we purchased this year to pay off. Then we are officially debt free, except for our house.

Marriage Goals

Josh and I had a trip planned to Hawaii when the pandemic hit, and we ended up having to cancel the trip all together. We’ve yet to reschedule, or take a vacation in over three years. In fact, the last vacation we went on was a family vacation to Disney World with Josh’s family. I remember it distinctly because we started our IVF medication right when we got home. Needless to say, our goal is to take a solo mom and dad trip at some point this year. We haven’t narrowed down where we’re going because we want to visit so many places.

Business Goals

I’m excited about the endless possibilities for the business. Our mission is to continue to serve our audience well, to hopefully expand our reach, take on a few more amazing clients, hire a few more amazing team members and role out a new digital product that you all have been asking for! Overall, I’m super excited to continue to chat with you all on the weekly. I’m looking forward to doing an episode like this at the end of 2022 to see what all came true and what changed or evolved.

Family Goals

As a family, we’re excited to continue to watch Beckham grow and welcome our new addition into our family. We want to continue to make memories with our two boys and make their childhood as much fun as we possibly can. We would love to take Beckam to the beach for the first time. And also plan on going up to the mountains so he can try snow tubing and maybe even skiing, since he’ll be three by this time next year. Cue the tears on my end!

I encourage you all to look back at all the amazing things that have happened this past year for you. That’s not to say that we didn’t walk through some difficult things that life threw at us, but overall, it was a good year. If you’re making new year’s resolutions or predictions, feel free to share them on Instagram and tag me @boldbusinesspodcast

Thank you for an amazing year! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in 2022. Until next time friends!

Amanda
