Modern Coastal Home Office Reveal

I am so excited to reveal my modern coastal home office makeover to you guys! It was always my dream to work from home and have a beautiful office that I could make the magic happen in. It all started with me buying this gorgeous white Hemnes desk from Ikea! Fast forward three years and now I run my very own 6-figure online business. I have the pleasure of working with amazing clients and leading a team of women that are truly gifted! I spend so many of my days tapping away at that laptop you spotted on this beautiful white desk, and I could not be more thankful.

This space was intended to be an in-law suite or guest bedroom when we initially built our house. However, I love that the space is small and on the main floor. This makes it easier to design, without feeling like you have to fill the space with unnecessary items. It also allows me to feel like I am part of the action since it is on the first floor and yet still gives me privacy because I can always shut the door.

When I first thought about designing this room I knew I wanted it to be inspiring and tranquil. For me that meant bright whites, pops of pink and some coastal vibes to top it off!

I began the design with pieces I already owned: the white desk, upholstered armchair, gold arm lamp, and floor mirror. From there we kicked it off with our [least] favorite task, painting the walls! We went from typical builder beige, as I like to call it, to Alabaster white from Sherwin Williams. Josh and I knocked it out in two days while Beckam took his afternoon naps. We poured some Rose, cranked up the Google Home music and went to work. Honestly, had it not been for Josh’s help it would have taken me forever!

This room truly could not have fallen together better.

I was wondering around home goods, as I usually do if I have a few minutes to kill, when I saw this gorgeous woven rug for $39. I couldn’t believe the price for the size! The white and blue woven texture and cute little tassels have the perfect serene coastal feel I am going for. I knew I had to have it! From there I pulled the blue and white striped pillow from another room into the space, also a home goods find, and then added this Serena and Lily look alike basket for added storage.

There is something about the open shelves that tie the room together.

Room open shelving decor

For the long white shelves I made my way to Ikea. They are the least expensive for the size that I could find. Originally I had planned on doing a natural color but my local store was sold out so white it was! Truthfully though, I love how it turned out!

The next step was styling the shelves. I want the space to be functional I opted for baskets and jars. The key to open shelf styling is layers, varying heights and textures, and creating a pattern where the eye can easily flow from left to right. Most of the items I pulled from other places in my house where they weren’t really being used or didn’t look quite right. I added the rattan tray and clear glass jars for the finishing touch!

The final step was hanging the bamboo roman shade and modern piece of art to complete the room. I plan to add a gold picture light above the art print, I am just waiting for it to arrive!

Lastly I plan to swap out the desk chair with something a little more coastal inspired. This grey one is one we purchased from West Elm when we lived in our apartment. While I love it, I’m not sure it fits the aesthetic of the room. Plus, the modern mid-century design has a slanted back and this isn’t great for your back when you are sitting for long time frames.
